Hey Hey Folks!! So I’ve been back in Ireland for a bit and it’s all systems go- I miss Nashville like crazy. But! no time to sit around and rest on any sort of laurels, Ive gotten together with a few amazing musicians here including Declan Plummer (Bodhran, Mandola and Guitar) and Dan Hull (Up Right Bass). Julia my right hand woman Uke player and backing vocalist will be arriving from the States to join us on the 21st and we’re going on a short Ireland tour! check out the tour dates across the page a bit in the ‘Play Dates’ bit. We have lift off on the 25th at the Belfast Nashville Festival in McHughs. Then we pack our compass and head for Galway, Dublin and Back up for the Lagan sessions in Belfast with a few house shows thrown in. Looking forward to playing in particular for ‘Coney Island Book Club’.
I’ve also been launched into itunes world and been getting some very cool 5* reviews both here and the US, check them out: (also, please buy and give your own review!): http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/run-onwards-ep/id497593003
Make sure an check out this new music video too. It was filmed on Thanksgiving in a gazebo in Virginia. Such a beautiful day and filmed by the very talented videographer JP Keenan.
Keep well folks, and stay warm, Spring is on its way, and its full of promise!
its sad times. leaving nashville tomorrow. we’ve had an amazing time and tho we leave with heavy hearts, I am certain we’ll be back for more, very soon. Its time to go back to ireland and re-group
The best news is that we recorded the EP over the last week with epic producer John Keane (REM, Indigo Girls, Widespread Panic, B52′s) so we leave with the goods, its what we came here for, so in a sense the trip is complete, the mission is accomplished and we are very proud. I look forward to getting the artwork done for the cover and getting replicas made, so hang tight in a short while you can get your hands on one, and most importantly all of those who supported this project back in March through my fundraising platform ‘wefund’ will get their free signed copy. good times.
check out a few of the clips below from some of the final gigs here in the last couple of weeks. sorry that my head is chopped off for most of them, sack the camera man!!!!
also, have a peek at the latest interview with Little Episodes, a Brighton based performance community:
Goodbye Nashville, for now. Thank you for your hospitality, generosity and warmth. see you soon, with love, Jayne
***ASHEVILLE. ‘where normal is weird’
honestly if you’ve not heard of it, hear about it.this place has some serious magnetic pulls. its a hippy city that we roadtripped to in N Carolina. It’s at thefoot of the appalachians and its been coined in the book the geography of bliss as being one of the ‘happiest’ places in the world, and i understand why…its vibrant, its chilled and its motto ; ‘where normal is weird’= our kinda vibe. we busked there which was fun. Thanks to the Carneys for having us at their beautiful house, and Craig for putting us in touch.
********very exciting we found the super talented Ben Rice at an open mic last week. Ben plays the banjo, mandolin and dobro... and, he's currently reading Ulysses by James joyce. its quite simply perfect. and whats more perfect is that he's been playing with us, not once but twice this week and i have to say its quite... emotional. i am unbelievably excited about the prospect of playing more together and wanna thank ben for gettin involved, thanks ben, its very cool.
AMERICANA MUSIC AWARDS****
last week @ The Ryman Auditorium. I saw Alison Krauss open the awardswith Emmy-Lou Harris singin I’ll fly away. As if that wasnt enough to completely floor me also in the house that night was Lucinda Williams, Jim Lauderdale, Buddy Millar, Gary Allman, The Civil Wars, Secret Sisters Justin Townes Earle, Jessica Lea Mayfield,Avett Brothers. holy crap, it was amazing. Live at The Basement,Brian Wright, a seriously talented musician, utterly captivating and just got signed to sugar hill. Also Check out ♣Lake Street Dive, ♥Greencards, ♠LeraLynn,♦Romantica and ♣Will Hoge are amongst the others that blew me away. this town is heaving~
here’s us performing ‘Shine’ at Hotel Indigo last week:

Hey y’all, WE’RE IN NASHVILLE!
We are so flippin excited to be here in Music City!
Its been such an amazing journey of faith just getting here.. and now its the really fun stuff… I’m looking forward to recording with Thomm Jutz in November, but first off there’s lots to be done, we are gonna be spending our days gigging, rehearsing, writing, and collaborating, up to that exciting point of recording
here’s a little clip from broadway last night, watch this space for weekly updates with videos from gigs and news of what we’ve been up to.
Thanks for stoppin’ by!
WEEK 1…its been such a fantastic week! first, here ‘s a video of the GIG highlights..
Highlight of the week: we loved meeting richard and jack at RI’CHARD’S www.richardscafe.com who gave us 2 sets to play, thanks to Jack who joined in on percussion. the vibe of this cajun restaurant was really down home, and right up our street. heartwarmingly, the waitresses weaved taking orders with intermittent spots on the mike for harmonies with richard himself, who is a serious songwriter and showman, impressive and… real.
Interesting Nashville Fact: you could play here every night if you wanted to. nice.
Ones to Watch: Rayland Baxter, Peter Terry and the City Prophets, Jamie Bendell, Travis Singleton.
Pic of the week: us with our fantastic new roommate at ‘live on the green’, enjoyed seeing and chatting with Rayland Baxter and also seeing, Drew Holcombe and the neighbors.
Live @ London Green Fair, Regents Park, June 2011
Folks! some exciting updates for those of you who are interested. Nashville is looming: i moved outta my room in London gave everything i owned to a charity shop, with one box, a suitcase and my guitar remaining and im almost good to go..
with some of my belongings that i sold on ebay Ive been able to put down the first deposit for my first Lowden guitar. I had a tour around the factory in ireland and oh boy, its AMAZING. Did you know that the instruments they use to carve the Lowden guitar is made out of the same material they use on Samurai swords?!! and that they import the best wood from Hawaii, Brazil, Africa, America.. even if you dont like guitars i would tell you to go, its really fascinating. I love that i now know who actually makes the nuts of bolts of the machine, that its dave who makes the fret board, rob who cuts the wood, dan who varnishes.. from the carving of the wood right through to the varnish, there is not one ounce of compromise. Great to talk to George again, whose skill and expertise its all down to..Thank you guys, and thanks to Ricky for sorting me out, i’ll be a very proud Lowden Guitar Owner/player.
i also spent some more time a couple of weeks ago with producer John Robertson (Grace Jones, Morcheeba) along with his incredibly talented friend Jesper Mattson (Lene Marlin) and prepared some demos for recording, here is a snippets of what we worked on:
so am seeing this presenting job out until mid september, stayin in hotels the whole time (bizarre), and i fly out on the 20th September..
ive heard many people say that good things come to those who wait …Oh Lord am I waitin’!
so folks we did it! for those of you who dont know already I managed to raise every single penny i need to go to nashville and record in September this year, ye harrrrrr!! I have said many times, but i’ll say it again, thank you to all who invested in my project, your names shall be in the EP and copies of them sent in the post
So as of 26th September i’ll be living in Nashville for 3 months. I’ll start my time there recording with Thomm Jutz, and go from there, in the meantime im workin a presenting job, so that i can earn enough $$$ to live in Nash and not work. ive got my work cut out for me.
Some news just in im gonna be singing at the London Green Fair on Saturday 4th June, its at regents park and my first taster of playing at a festival. festivals are something i have my eye on for next year, since they are such an intrisic part of London/British summer life, i wanna get STUCK IN.
I also got a new guitar in the post, thanks dad! – its quite cool really and timely, cause my songs lately have been much more rocky electric sound.
also some of the new photos i have up here and on facebook are from a recent photo shoot with Washingtons DC’s finest photographer Brian Tropiano,-
he came to london lately and we did a shoot- i hope you like, am not splattering them all up just yet as some of them are potential album cover photos.
So life atm consists of lots of Bikram yoga, writing, rehearsing (now doing 3 part harmonies with the girls) and trying to stay in the moment as much as possible, its hard when such exciting things lie ahead. But as the next chapter is imminent im wandering around already missing london, crazy portobello rd (where i feel right at home) and most importantly my friends…
hey ho, onwards and upwards!
well folks, there’s definitely something extraordinary going on in the air atm. not only has the sun appeared in London (shock horror) but having heard it several times from veritable sources that 2011 is the year where things happen, i believe resolutely that that certainly is the case. its time to move forward, and make things happen.
I feel like i am playing the lead role in my own life. Seriously, i never thought 7 years ago when i left ireland that i’d be doing the things i am doing and meeting the sorts that i am today, life is rich. Now the sketch book gets fuller.
The latest news is that my desire to go to Nashville has been increasing and is now uncontrollable. I’ve had too many synchronistic encounters with the right people, and my recent visit to the States to visit my brother was profoundly confirming that my sense that i belong across the pond is correct, and good. I recently contacted Thomm Jutz, Nanci Griffiths producer and sent him some of my songs. To my complete and utter disbelief he replied and told me he loved my music and wants to produce it!
SO….
THE PLAN= GO TO NASHVILLE IN SEPTEMBER FOR 3 MONTHS= EMBRACING DESTINY.
however, i still need help, I’ve got 6 days left to raise the final 32% of the funds i need for recording. ive had so many incredible people showing their generosity and I want to take this opportunity firstly to once again thank them, but also to ask you once again, if you havent already, please consider investing in this project- there are rewards for you too! I believe 100 % in it and have been nurturing this goal for quite a while now, im resolutely determined (i love that word ‘resolute’, its like its already happened) but i do need your help- all i need is 30 people to invest 20 quid, and we’re there. not exactly a slap in the face with a wet fish. Please please take 5 minutes to watch this and if you feel inclined, relinquish yourself of a fraction of your disposable income!!!
